Work with us

Come and work
somewhere lovely

We are looking for wait staff. A small family-run team, a room full of regulars, and a view over the water that never really gets old.

The job

Wait staff,
and a proper welcome

The Clubhouse Café is a family-run licensed café inside the clubhouse at Harrington Waters Golf Club. Ann runs it with her daughter Elizabeth, and between them they spent years running restaurants in Sydney before coming north.

We are open seven days for breakfast, lunch, coffee and cake, and the clubhouse hosts birthdays, club nights and weddings through the year. It is a busy, friendly room with a lot of regulars in it.

We would like somebody reliable to join us on the floor.

Two things you will need

Both of these
are essential

Not preferred, not nice to have. Without these two we cannot put you on.

An RSA

The clubhouse is licensed, so a current Responsible Service of Alcohol certificate is essential. No RSA, no shift, we are afraid.

Weekend availability

We are open seven days and the weekend is our busiest stretch. Being available on weekends is essential, not a bonus.

What the job actually is

A normal day
on the floor

No surprises and nothing hidden. This is what you would be doing.

Make the coffee

Coffee is the thing people come back for and we are quietly proud of it. You will be on the machine, so being confident with it matters.

Take orders and serve

Orders go through the bar. You will take them, get them right, and run the food and drinks out to the tables.

Clear and reset tables

Clearing, wiping down and resetting so the next people sit down to a clean table with a view.

Keep it tidy

The floor, the counter, the coffee area and the deck. Nobody here is above a cloth, including Ann.

Look after people

Say hello, learn the regulars, be genuinely pleasant. Half the reason people come up here is that somebody knew their name.

Help out at functions

Birthdays, club nights and weddings all happen here. When one is on, it is all hands.

Why here

The reasons people
stay once they start

The honest pitch. Every one of these is something you can see for yourself the first time you come up.

01

A daytime café, not a late-night one

The kitchen serves 8:30am to 2pm and the bar and café trade to 5:30pm on Wednesday, Friday and Saturday. Most of the work here happens in daylight, over coffee and lunch, rather than at eleven at night.

02

The best view of anywhere in town

The deck looks out over the fairways, the greens and the water. It is a genuinely lovely place to spend a morning, which is not something you can say about most kitchens.

03

A small team, family run

Ann runs the café with her daughter Elizabeth. You will not be a number on a roster, and you will always know who to ask.

04

People who know the job

Ann and Elizabeth both ran restaurants in Sydney for years before this. If you want to get good at hospitality, that is who you want to be standing next to.

05

Regulars, not strangers

The same faces come up most mornings, with their dogs and their grandchildren. It is a friendly room and it is a friendly town.

The one thing that matters most

Turn up, on time, when you said you would. That is genuinely it. We can work with someone who is still learning the machine. We cannot work with someone who does not arrive. If you are reliable and you are pleasant to people, you will do well here and we will look after you.
