Where to play golf and get lunch in Harrington

The short version

You can play golf and eat in the same place, and you do not have to be a member of anything to do either.

The course and the café are two different businesses in one building. The club runs the golf. We run the café inside its clubhouse. Both are open to the public.

The rest of this page is the detail: what the course is, what it costs, how to book, and how to time a round so the kitchen is still open when you finish.

Nine holes that play as eighteen

This is the part that confuses people the first time, so it is worth saying plainly.

The club describes the course as a nine-hole, 5890-metre course with eighteen distinct tees that plays as a par 72. You go round the nine twice, from a different tee each time. The second nine is not a repeat of the first.

Golf NSW lists it as one of the 25 greatest nine hole courses in Australia, and notes that it opened in 2006 and is member owned and run.

The club describes couch fairways, couch greens and a layout that winds through and around a wetland. There is a lot of native bird life out there. Bring the good sunglasses, and expect to stop and look at things.

What a round costs

These are the club’s own published social green fees, listed on its Play Golf page as taking effect 1 July 2025:

• Nine holes, social – $35
• Eighteen holes, social – $45
• A $2 insurance levy is added to all rounds

Hire is listed separately. Clubs are $15, a pull buggy is $5, and a motorised cart starts at about $32 depending on the format you are playing.

Prices are the club’s to set and they change, so treat the figures above as a guide and check the club’s page or ask the golf shop when you book. We run the café, not the course, so we are the wrong people to quote you a green fee.

Booking a tee time

Ring the golf shop on (02) 6556 0404. That is the club’s number, not ours.

The club asks that tee times are booked through the shop, and it caps a booking at four people per tee time. If there are more of you than that, say so on the phone and let them sort out the spacing.

Our number is (02) 6556 0409, and it reaches the café. If you ring us about a tee time we will happily give you the other number, but we cannot book it for you.

When you can play

The club lists the course as open 7am to 5pm every day, weather permitting, and later during daylight saving.

There are competitions most days from Monday to Saturday, and Sunday is social play. Visitors are welcome in both. If you hold a Golf Link handicap you can enter the competition; if you do not, you can still play socially.

Wednesday and Saturday mornings are the busiest, because that is when the bigger fields go out. Worth knowing whether you want the company or want to avoid it.

The bit of timing that catches people out

Here is the thing nobody tells you, and it is the most useful sentence on this page.

The course runs until 5pm. Our kitchen stops at 2pm.

So an early round with lunch afterwards works beautifully. A late round with lunch afterwards does not, because the kitchen will have finished by the time you walk off.

If you tee off in the morning you have all the room in the world. Breakfast runs 8:30 to 11:30am and lunch runs 11:30am to 2pm, so you can eat before you play, after you play, or both.

If you are teeing off after about midday, the honest advice is to eat first. Or ring ahead and take something with you.

What is open when the kitchen is not

Coffee, a selection of teas and cake from the display are available all day, right through to close. So the end of an afternoon round is not a dry one.

On Wednesday, Friday and Saturday the bar and café stay open later, until about 5:30pm, for drinks, coffee, cake and bar snacks. That depends on the weather, and on there being no private event on in the clubhouse, so it is not something to drive out for without ringing first.

On Fridays there is Happy Hour on the deck from 4 to 5:30pm, with raffles, $6 draught beer and $6 house wine, and bar snacks alongside. Nothing to book and nothing to join. There is more about it in Friday afternoon on the deck.

What is actually on the menu

Breakfast is the honest things done properly. Toasted banana bread, a bacon and egg roll, scrambled eggs and bacon, a BLT, toasties and croissants, with hashbrown or avocado on the side.

Lunch has the golf-day staples and a few things worth a detour. An Angus beef burger, tempura flathead tails, a tempura tasting plate, Peking duck spring rolls, a club sandwich, and wraps if you want something lighter after eighteen.

There are bar snacks for a table of four who want to sit and argue about the round: baskets of beer battered or sweet potato fries, fish cocktails, potato scallops.

Kids get nuggets and fries or fish and fries. The full list and every price is on the menu page, and we check it against the printed menus rather than letting it drift.

You do not have to play at all

This is worth saying loudly, because a golf clubhouse looks like a members-only building from the car park, and it is not.

The club’s own site describes the clubhouse as open to all. The café inside it is open to the public seven days a week. You do not need to be a member, you do not need to play golf, and you do not need to book a table.

Plenty of people come up for a coffee and a look at the view and never touch a club. Families come up after school holidays swimming. Walkers come up off the breakwall. Dogs are welcome in the outdoor seating on the deck, and there are water bowls out there for them.

Order at the bar, take a table, and stay as long as you like.

Where to sit

Indoors is fully air conditioned, with glass along one side looking out over the course and the water. That is the winter answer, and the wet-day answer.

The deck runs along the building with the fairways and the lake in front of it. That is the answer for every other day. It is the reason a quick coffee turns into an hour, and it is where the dogs go.

Parking is on site at the clubhouse and the entrance is step free, so nobody is circling a street looking for a space in golf shoes.

A morning that works

If you want the whole thing in one order, this is it.

• Ring the golf shop on (02) 6556 0404 a few days out and book a tee time.
• Come up early and have breakfast from 8:30am. Coffee is on from open.
• Play your round. Nine holes if you are short of time, eighteen if you are not.
• Be back before 2pm and have lunch on the deck.
• If it is a Wednesday, Friday or Saturday and the weather is good, stay for a drink.

That is a genuinely good day out, it is all in one car park, and the most expensive part of it is the golf.

If you are making a trip of it

Harrington is worth more than one stop. The breakwall walk at the river mouth, Pilot Hill lookout over the delta and the Crowdy Head lighthouse are all close, all free, and all take less time than a round of golf.

One last thing. The clubhouse sometimes hosts a private function, and when it does the café usually closes to the public for the day. It is worth a quick ring before you make the drive, especially if you are coming from out of town.
